Woman Picking Olives – Van Gogh – 1889
The painting “Woman Picking Olives” by Van Gogh was completed in late 1889. Interestingly, he created three versions of this artwork. He regarded the original version as a nature study “rich with more authentic hues”. The second, painted in a studio, employed a very discrete palette. The final version, which is presented here, is considered the most determined amongst his different paintings. This masterpiece was dedicated to his mother and sister. The Dutch painter wrote to them, saying: “I hope the painting of the women in the olive trees will be to your liking.”
