The Bedroom – Van Gogh – 1889
The painter, Van Gogh, held his painting, “The Bedroom – Van Gogh”, in high esteem. As such, he crafted three unique versions of it. The first of these was created in 1888 shortly after he moved into his yellow house in Arles. It marked a first for the Dutch artist, who finally had a house of his own. It was a period marked by intense artistic activity as he worked tirelessly to adorn his walls with various paintings. Completely drained by the efforts, he spent two and a half days in bed, which eventually inspired him to paint a depiction of his bedroom. This artwork symbolises relaxation, peace and absolute rest for the artist. However, in the eyes of experts, the canvas seems teeming with nervous energy, instability and agitation, an effect accentuated by the starkly receding perspective.
