Sunflowers – Van Gogh – 1887
This painting of sunflowers by Van Gogh is one of four still life works he painted during his time in Paris. A sketch of this painting can be found in the museum dedicated to the artist in Amsterdam, and two other artworks featuring this specific plant, also dated 1887, along with another canvas depicting four sunflower heads. Two of these works were acquired by Paul Gauguin, which held a place of honour in his Parisian apartment. In this canvas, we can observe somewhat cold colours as well as broad and distinctive brush strokes, which characterize the style of Vincent Van Gogh.
