Houses of parliament London – Monet – 1900-1903
Here, we see Houses of parliament London – Monet, created during his London explorations. He painted the Houses of Parliament in the late afternoon and at sunset, all while viewing from a balcony at St. Thomas’ Hospital. This perspective mirrors that of English artist JMW Turner in his avant-garde paintings of the fire that devastated a large portion of the old Parliament complex in 1834. Nevertheless, in his interpretation of dusk and fog, Monet was significantly inspired by the work of an artist who painted the Thames, American James McNeill Whistler.
