Waterfall – Hokusai – 1828-1838
This masterpiece featuring a waterfall by Hokusai places the Ono Falls in Japan in the foreground. In this artistic rendition, the waterfall is depicted on the left of the painting with a tremendous scale compared to the figures portrayed at the bottom. The renowned Japanese artist also adorned the frame with flora and a few dwellings. This real landscape is located on Kisokaido Road, a symbolic trail in Japan. Notably, it served as a vital connection between Edo (now known as Tokyo) and Kyoto. Unlike other routes, this trail navigated through the mountains, offering awe-inspiring sceneries like this one.
