This Japanese Landscape Painting – Hokusai is yet another stunning panorama that showcases its origin country: Japan. This time, the Japanese artist’s creativity draws not just from the ambiance of his region but also from local traditions. Indeed, through this composition, he pays tribute to the famed poet, Sarumaru Dayu. This Heian period author is one of the most mythical figures in Japan, although his story remains somewhat enigmatic. While many historians suspect he wrote all the poetic works signed under his name, nothing definitively proves this either way.
Hokusai, on the other hand, executed his series “One Hundred Poems Explained by the Nurse”, attempting to illustrate a hundred of Japan’s most famous poetic works within his creation. This effort showcased the painter’s passion for poetic art, as he had fun trying out interpretations of each poem.
