This impressive number of brush names signified a change in intellectual attitude, style, and vision each time, reflecting his relentless effort for renewal. He declared that his work before his 70s was immaterial, that at 90 years old he would penetrate the heart of things, that he would then become a true painter at 100 years old, and that he would finally reach perfection at 110.
