This dog canvas painting is actually a reproduction of the work “A St Bernard Dog”, an oil painting created by Dutch artist Bernard te Gempt between 1850 and 1879. He was a specialist in animal and still life paintings. This painting depicts a Saint Bernard, one of the most imposing dogs, famous for its role as a mountain rescuer.
The painting itself is majestic. Indeed, in its original size, it measures 179 cm by 248. In the foreground, we can observe the animal standing on all fours with its white and brown fur so characteristic of Saint Bernards. It stands proudly in the middle of a mountainous landscape and in front of what appears to be a small village in the background.
