Tree – Van Gogh – 1889
This is a portrayal of a Tree by Van Gogh, it was created in 1889 when Vincent had just moved to Arles. He lived in the famous Yellow House.
From his second-story room, he overlooked the Lamartine Square, a humble public park. Vincent himself described the view as a “garden corner with a weeping tree, grass, round-trimmed cedar shrubs, and an oleander bush. The colors have the richness and the intensity of autumn.”
The Dutch painter created a series of drawings and paintings of this garden. The vitality of the garden, its grass, its flourishing trees, is conveyed through Van Gogh’s repetitive strokes.
