Bordighera – Monet
At the start of 1884, Claude Monet traveled toBordighera, a small commune on the Italian Riviera close to the border between Italy and France, for a three-week working tour that ended up lasting nearly three months. In a letter to the sculptorAuguste Rodin, he described his efforts to capture the radiant Mediterranean glow, stating he was “fencing and fighting, with the sun”. In various other messages, he laments about the struggle to find a decent subject among the province’s flourishing flora. The “Bordighera – Monet” is a sun-filled painting celebrated from a viewpoint atop a mountain. Waves are barely noticeable among the interwoven trunks of the local pines.
